Babies Born Prematurely Leaflet

This leaflet has been developed and piloted at James Cook University Hospital Neonatal Unit in Middlesbrough.

We were keen to develop something for premature babies because they don’t get the same sort of contact from health professionals as parents of full term babies.  Going home with a baby who has been in the neonatal unit for a number of weeks is an exhilarating but also scary experience.

2 weeks after the baby’s original due date, they can start to cry more and follow the same crying curve pattern as full term babies so we felt it was important to let parents know and help them cope.

It has received extremely positive feedback from parents and staff alike and we are hoping it will soon be disseminated across the country.
