Cycling for a Cause: Over £700 Raised for ICON
Pat Pleydell-Pearce, husband of ICON parent ambassador Mae, has raised over £700 for ICON by completing the demanding Quantock Quake bike race. This achievement holds special significance for Pat, as it continues the family’s deep personal connection to the charity’s mission.
Pat became the legal father of Mae’s son, Ellis, and made the difficult decision to leave his job to help care for Ellis during his palliative stage. Pat’s dedication ensured that Ellis could remain at home, surrounded by family, during his final months. Mae describes Pat as not only an incredible father but also a devoted partner who has always gone the extra mile for his family.
For the Quantock Quake, Pat and his friends wore vibrant, eye-catching shirts to engage other riders and walkers on the trail. The quirky outfits led to conversations about the charity, allowing Pat to spread the ICON message. As he shared: “It was the perfect opportunity to talk about ICON and its message to other men. Parenting and coping with crying babies is something we need to talk about it more as men.”
Mae, reflecting on her husband’s efforts, said: “I’m so proud of Pat’s determination to complete this race and raise such an amazing amount for ICON. We know all about the importance of support for parents and how vital ICON’s message is, it was a great opportunity to spread awareness of ICON amongst a really important demographic and perhaps pave the way for similar opportunities.”
Dr Sue Smith, ICON’s founder, expressed her appreciation, saying, “We are deeply humbled by Pat’s effort and commitment. His work on and off the racecourse helps us spread our message that ‘babies cry, you can cope.’ Contributions like Pat’s make it possible for ICON to continue its life-saving work.”
